SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana College Kinesiology & Athletics Department is bringing back it's Student-Athlete of the Month awards and has announced the first two winners.

Leyna Wood and Gilberto Garcia were named the recipients for the month of September, 2019.

Wood, a sophomore from University High, currently leads the Santa Ana women's soccer team in goals with nine for the season (5 in September) and also has two assists. Wood has been a key to Santa Ana's undefeated (6-0) start to the season.  This is the second time Leyna has been named Student-Athlete of the Month at Santa Ana College, as she won her first last September.

Gilberto Garcia has been a difference maker for the SAC men's soccer team as he has recorded six goals (5 in September) with one assist. The freshman from Saddleback High has helped lead the Dons to a 6-1 record and is among the top goal scorers in the Orange Empire Conference.

Both of the Don soccer teams will continue their seasons with the start of Orange Empire Conference play on Tuesday, October 1st as they match up with Santiago Canyon College.
