Ray Carrasco

Golf, Class of 2005

According to Santa Ana College sports historians, Ray Carrasco is recognized as the best men's golfer in school history. He was a member of the 1964 and 1965 Santa Ana College men's golf teams where he played for the legendary Arlin Pirtle.

In 1965, Carrasco helped the Dons capture the college's only California Community College men's state golf title. While playing for Santa Ana College, the former Garden Grove High School-product twice earned allconference honors and finished in the top three in the conferencefinals both years.

Carrasco earned a scholarship to play golf at San Diego State University where he excelled in 1966 and 1967 earning allconference honors in each of his two seasons playing for the Aztecs.

In the early 1970s, he earned his United States Professional Golf Association (PGA) card and spent two years playing with the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and his boyhood idol Sam Snead. On occasion, Carrasco would compete on the European Tour, but he enjoyed his most success playing on the mini tours throughout the United States, winning more than 100 events before turning 50 in 1997.

Currently, the former Santa Ana College star is competing on the European Seniors Tour where he ranks 70th on the 2005 money earnings list. His highest finish this year was back in July when he tied for 29th at the Ryder Cup Wales Senior Open, the tournament which he won a year ago.

Carrasco has three European Seniors Tour victories to his credit including his first tour victory in 2002 at the Travis Perkins Senior Masters Tournament.

Carrasco, who is the oldest of 15 children, is married to Suzanne and they are the parents of son, Ryan, and daughter, Ali.
