Dick Gorrie joined Santa Ana College in 1964 as the head football coach, sparking a career that would stretch over six decades.

From 1964-1975, Gorrie led the Dons football team to 52 wins including an 18-16 victory over Ventura College in the 1965 Elks Show Bowl. In the 1971 season, Gorrie’s Dons finished 6-3 overall and 5-1 in conference, earning them the South Coast Conference Championship. That same season, Gorrie was named the South Coast Conference Coach of the Year.

After stepping down as the football coach, Gorrie would later become the head coach of the men’s golf team. Gorrie would add another Conference Coach of the Year award before being inducted into the California Community College Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Outside of SAC, Gorrie has also served as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Rams and the Buffalo Bills. He began his coaching career at Helix High School as an assistant coach, before becoming the head coach for seven seasons.

Gorrie has also worked with the American Heart Association, the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame, the Orange County Youth Sports Foundation and the Speech and Language Development Center.
