Matthew Lien played for the Santa Ana College men’s basketball team during the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons, winning the State Championship in 1990. As a freshman, Lien led the team in scoring three times including the team’s season high with 31 points in one game

He also led the team in rebounding seven times, including a team season high of 14 rebounds in one game. He led the team in shooting with at 58% while finishing second with 38 blocks on his way to receiving All-Orange Empire Conference honors.

In his sophomore campaign, Lien led the Dons in scoring 14 times while leading the team in rebounding eight times. For the second straight year, Lien led the Dons with his 54% shooting while averaging a team-high 18.3 points per game. He also led the team with 53 blocks

He again received All-Orange Empire Conference honors while being named First-Team All-State. Lien also led the Dons to the 1990 State Championship while being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. His 875 career points placed him at 15th all-time while landing eighth all-time with his 18.3 points per game average on the season scoring list.
