Trevor Mortensen joined the Santa Ana College baseball team in 2004 after one season at California State University, Fullerton. In his one season with the Dons, Mortensen left his mark on Santa Ana College as well as the Orange Empire Conference.

Mortensen led the Dons in several offensive categories including batting average (.503), hits (78), runs scored (73), doubles (15), home runs (13) and stolen bases (18). He also finished second on the team with two triples and 17 walks while finishing third with 45 runs batted in and 0 hit by pitches. In addition to those impressive numbers, Mortensen only struck out six times, leading all players with at least 75 at bats.

His success on the field led to numerous postseason accolades as he was named the Dons Most Valuable Player while also receiving the Golden Bat award. At the conference level, Mortensen was named the Orange Empire Conference Player of the Year while receiving All-America honors.

Finally, he received the Southern California Big Stick Award. Mortensen was drafted by the Indians in the 43rd round of the 2004 Major League Baseball draft but took a scholarship to return to Cal State Fullerton where he was a member of the 2005 Titan squad.

Following his junior season, Mortensen was again drafted by the Indians, this time in the 33rd round. Mortensen spent two seasons in the Indians minor league system, batting .272 with four home runs and 43 runs batted in.
