In his two years as a member of the Santa Ana College baseball pitching corp, Mike Schwabe made an assault on the pitching records at the college breaking 13 previous marks.

Schwabe twice earned first team All-South Coast Conference honors after winning 12 games as a freshman in 1984 and 13 games as a sophomore in 1985. His 25 career wins still ranks first in Santa Ana College history.

While at Santa Ana College, the former Tustin High School-star set career marks for game appearances (41), innings pitched (257.1), strikeouts (157), runs allowed (111) and hits allowed (256); single-season marks for wins (13) innings pitches (140), games started (17), complete games (9) and strikeouts (95); and individual game marks for innings pitched (10) and home runs allowed (4).

As a freshman, Schwabe appeared in 21 games and finished with a 12-5 record and a 4.06 ERA. He struckout 62 batters and walked just 35 in 117.1 innings of work. During his second year with the Dons, Schwabe was even more impressive as he finished the season 13-2 overall with a 1.61 ERA. He record 95 strikeouts and just 34 walks in 140 innings.

Before coming to Santa Ana College, Schwabe was the Century League Most Valuable Player and an All-Orange County selection.

Schwabe transferred to Arizona State University before playing professionally for two American League teams, the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins. He earned two Major League wins during parts of two seasons at the Major League level.
