Tomas Serna

Men's Soccer, Class of 2011

In two seasons with the Santa Ana College men’s soccer program, Tomas Serna rewrote the record books while claiming five different championships.

As a freshman, Serna scored 33 goals for the Dons in 26 games while being named the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Most Valuable Player.

Serna led the Dons to the OEC title in ’98 before guiding them through the playoffs, ultimately winning the State Championship where he was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Serna followed his spectacular freshman season by setting a new SAC scoring record with 41 goals, previously held by fellow Hall of Famer Jose Vasquez.

During the 1999 campaign, Serna helped the Dons to their only undefeated season in college history. The Dons repeated as OEC champions while Serna was again named OEC Most Valuable Player. The Dons went on to successfully defend their state title while also being named National Champions.

Serna’s 75 career goals are also a SAC record. Following the 1999 season, Serna was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Area, West team before being selected in the fifth round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft by the Los Angeles Galaxy.
