Men's Soccer, Class of 2007
Jose Vasquez played soccer for Santa Ana College in 1989 and 1990, helping the Dons to a 23-5-5 record and a pair of second place conference finishes . He still holds three Santa Ana College men's soccer records including fastest goal scored (10 seconds), most goals in a game (7) and most career hat tricks (4).
While playing at SAC, Vasquez was named the team's most valuable player both as a freshman and sophomore. He led the Dons in scoring with 30 goals and 18 assists his freshman year and finished with 27 goals his sophomore season.
Vasquez went on to play nine years of professional soccer including four for the Los Angeles Galaxy (1996-1999). He set a new Major League Soccer record in 1997 when he scored the league's fastest hat trick (9 minutes) and was a member of the 1996 and 1998 Los Angeles Galaxy teams that won Western Conference titles.
Vasquez also played for a variety of other professional soccer teams including: Club Guadalajara Chivas in 1991; Atlas, Rojinegros in 1992; L.A. Salsa in 1993-94; Pueblo , Camoteros in 1995; Celaya , Puebla in 1995; Anaheim Splash in 1995; Orange County Zodiac in 1997 and 1999 and; Orange County Waves in 2000.
Vasquez took over head coaching duties of the Santa Ana College men's soccer team in 2004 following the retirement of fellow Hall of Fame inductee and his former coach J.P. Frutos. In his first season, Vasquez led the Dons to their second national title and he won two-straight state championships in his first two years. Vasquez has also continued the Dons conference championship streak which, at the time of his induction, was 13-straight years.
