Defensive Miscues Prove Costly for the Dons in 13-10 Loss to Mt. SAC

SANTA ANA, Calif. –  The bats were working for both teams in Thursday's non-conference matchup between the Santa Ana Dons (4-5) and the Mt. San Antonio Mounties (8-3) at Don Sneddon Field.

The teams combined for 23 runs on 27 hits, as the Mounties defeated the Dons 13-10 in the second of their two game series to complete the sweep.

Nine different players recorded a hit for the Dons and six of them had two or more. Freshman shortstop Raymond Villanueva came up with two of those hits and led the Dons in runs batted in with two while another freshman, Drake Wood, took advantage of starting in the designated hitter spot by collecting three hits on the day.

Although it was one of Santa Ana's best offensive outings of the year, they struggled on defense with four errors. Santa Ana also put themselves in a tough spot on the mound, as their pitching staff walked 10 total batters while the Mounties put up a zero in that category.

The Dons still had their chances to steal the game even with all the miscues. In the seventh, they came back to tie the game at nine apiece but allowed four runs in the top of the ninth, which they couldn't recover from.

Cole Hoskins got the loss in this one after pitching from the seventh and on, striking out one and giving up two earned runs. Steven Ordorica earned his first win of the season for the Mounties with three innings, three strikeouts and one earned run.

Santa Ana host two more games this weekend, starting with San Bernardino Valley College on Friday, at 2:00 p.m. followed by San Diego Mesa College on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
