Massey’s Clutch Single Wins it for the Dons

SANTA ANA, Calif. –  Cage Massey was called on to pinch hit with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, as the Dons trailed Oxnard College 2-1 with only a few at bats left in the game. Massey did not disappoint, bringing in two runs on a single up the middle to give Santa Ana a 3-2 lead after they had trailed since the fifth inning.

In the ninth, Cole Hoskins shut down the Condors to collect his first win of the year and help Santa Ana improve to 13-14 overall. Hoskins went 2.2 innings with one hit and two strikeouts to finish up a quality six inning, one run start from Nathan Flores. In his sixth appearance of the season, Flores allowed just one run and three hits while striking out five for a no decision.

The Dons walked away with the win but struggled throughout the game at the plate. They totaled just three hits while leaving nine runners on base in yet another low scoring game.

With Long Beach City coming in tomorrow for the second of their two game series, the Dons hope to get their bats going and come away with another win before heading back to conference play next week. The game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Don Sneddon Field on Thursday, March 29th.
