Dons Rack Up 14 Runs to Win Second Straight

SANTA ANA, Calif. –  The Santa Ana Baseball team hosted the Long Beach City Vikings in game two of their series on Thursday afternoon. After dropping the first game 9-2, the Dons posted 14 runs against the Vikings to even the series at one game apiece.

Santa Ana got things going quickly in the first inning when Bryan Leef singled to bring in the first run of the game. They tacked on another in the third, as Andrew Martinez picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly to make a 2-0 ball game.

After the Vikings responded with a run in the top of the fourth, Bryan Leef came right back with a two run home run in the bottom half of the inning to give the Dons some breathing room, bringing the SAC lead to 4-1. A few innings later, the Dons broke the game open, scoring nine runs in the seventh inning which led to the 14-4 victory.

The Dons offense redeemed itself after putting up just two runs in the first matchup. Santa Ana had six different players with at least two hits while four of them also had two or more runs batted in.

Gabe Armstrong recorded his second win of the season after going five innings with six strikeouts and two runs. He was followed by Jacob Ayala, who went 2.2 scoreless innings while giving up only one hit.

Santa Ana has now won their last two games, bringing them to a record of 14-14, 2-7 before heading back into Orange Empire Conference play. On Tuesday, April 3rd the Dons will return to action as they host Riverside City College at 2:00 p.m.
