SAC Baseball Splits with ELAC after Another Comeback Win

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana baseball team welcomed the East Los Angeles Huskies to Don Sneddon Field on Saturday afternoon. The teams started by completing their game that was halted in the 12th inning on Wednesday, as East LA came out with a 2-1 win after scoring on a squeeze in the 13th inning. Following that conclusion, they played another nine innings to finish off the season series.

Santa Ana fell behind early as the Huskies put up five runs in the first two innings after a few errors and some timely hits.

Frank Garcia got the Dons on the board in the second inning with an RBI ground out to second to bring home Drake Wood, but the Huskies would answer in the fourth with another run to push the lead back to five runs (6-1).

In the seventh, the Dons began to make their run starting with a couple of singles from Chad Wilson and Tommy Acuna. Runners would advance second and third before Wilson came across on an East LA error to make it 6-2.

Grant Askins stayed red hot, pulling a ball through right side the defense to bring in two, cutting the lead to 6-4. Drake Wood kept the rally going with a single of his own to score one more and Copper Hansen followed that with an RBI double to bring the Dons all the way back to tie the score at 6-6.

East LA's Andes Alonso made some good pitches to force a ground ball from Acuna but an error from the Huskie first baseman helped the Dons gain their first lead of the game at 8-6 as Garcia and Hansen both came in to score before the Huskies could get out of the inning.

Santa Ana added to the lead with four more runs in the eighth, helping them run away with a 12-6 win to improve to 9-4 while ELAC slips to 7-6.
