Dons Roll to 12-3 Win Over Golden West

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The No. 9 ranked Santa Ana baseball team tied its season high of 12 runs to roll over No. 7 Golden West in game one of their Orange Empire Conference series on Tuesday.

Once again, the Dons fell behind early, giving up a run in each of the first two innings to go down 2-0. Santa Ana quickly answered with five runs on five hits and two errors in the second inning to take a 5-2 lead.

After two innings, Joel Casillas settled in, giving the Dons a good start with seven innings, two strikeouts and just one earned run to get the win. Casillas, who is usually a bullpen arm, is now 1-1 with a 2.37 ERA in 30.1 innings.

The Dons scored seven more runs after their big second inning to pull away for a 12-3 win.

In his first start of the season, second baseman Derek Sims went 2-4 with three runs batted in and a walk to give the Dons some energy. He came up with the two run double in the second to get the Dons on the board.

Frank Garcia and Grant Askins both collected two hits and combined for four runs in the two and three spots while Raymond Villanueva and Chad Wilson did some damage in the bottom half of the lineup with four hits and four runs between them.

Santa Ana is now 13-6, 3-1 after the win, sending the Rustlers down to a record of 12-7, 1-3.
