Santa Ana Baseball Hangs 15 on Compton to Pick up Second Win of the Season

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana baseball team played host to the Compton Tartars on Saturday afternoon for its 2020 home opener after defeating San Diego Mesa 7-5 in its first game the day before.

Although the Dons had a rough start to this one, they came back from a 3-0 deficit and eventually piled it on to pick up their second win by a score of 15-3.

The Compton Tartars put up two runs in the first inning thanks to a hit and two Don errors. They added to their lead in the third inning when third baseman Michael Pagan hit one over the left center field fence to make it 3-0.

Following that, Santa Ana shut things down and held the Tartars scoreless the rest of the way.

Joel Casillas got the start and lasted three innings, giving up three runs (one earned) while striking out one. Cesar Aguilar took over from there and went the next three innings without giving up a run to earn his first win of the year.

Lucas Franco, Kyle Hoskins and Tyler Giacone threw one scoreless inning each to finish out the game.

Santa Ana's offensive outburst was led by freshman outfielder Austin Bartlett, who went 3-4 with a run batted in and a walk. Bartlett is now hitting .700 on the season with four RBI's in two games.

Other standouts included Cedrick Perez and Derek Sims. Perez posted four hits to raise his batting average to .556 and Sims made the most of his first appearance of the season with three hits, two runs batted in and two walks.

James Williams and Kyle Morrell also added two hits a piece and combined for three RBI's and two walks.
