Doak Powers Santa Ana Past Canyons with Grand Slam

SANTA ANA, Calif. – With the bases loaded in the bottom of the third inning, sophomore infielder Zack Doak turned on a waist high fastball and sent it over the left field fence to give the Santa Ana baseball team an early 4-0 lead against the College of the Canyons Cougars on Thursday.

The Dons added a couple more runs in the fourth inning and held on down the stretch to earn their third win of the young season.

Starting pitcher Josh Haley picked up the win after going 5.2 innings with four strikeouts and three earned runs in his second appearance of the year. Lucas Franco and Cesar Aguilar came out of the bullpen to hold the Cougars scoreless for 2.1 innings until Kyle Hoskins took over in the ninth to notch his first save.

Doak did most the damage at the plate and finished with four runs batted in. James Williams drove in a run on a double down the left field line and Frank Garcia knocked one in on a single to center field.

Santa Ana improves to 3-1 and has scored at least six runs in its first four games. Canyons falls to 1-3 on the season.
