Santa Ana Baseball Announces Seven Signings

SANTA ANA, Calif. - The Santa Ana Baseball program has announced that seven student-athletes from it's 2020 team have signed with four year schools. These seven include Josh Haley, Kyle Hoskins, Frank Garcia, Grant Askins, Nick Sova, Copper Hansen and Joel Casillas

Josh Haley: Haley commited to Cal State Northridge (NCAA DI) in the Fall of 2019 before having a dominant first half of his sophomore season with the Dons. The lefty from Gahr High finished with a 6-0 record and a 3.22 ERA in 50.1 innings of work.  

Kyle Hoskins: Hoskins has also signed to Cal State Northridge (NCAA DI) after solidifying himself as one of the best relievers in the state. Hoskins led the state in saves with eight and ended the season with the lowerst ERA in the Orange Empire Confeence (OEC) at 1.14. The right hander out of Tustin High was 1-0 in 15 appearances and 23.2 innings pitched. 

Frank Garcia: Garcia is headed to the University of Cumberlands (NAIA) after producing big numbers in the middle of the Santa Ana lineup for two seasons. Following a freshman season where he was named to the All-OEC First Team, Garcia posted a .292 batting average with two homeruns and 18 runs batted in through the first half of the 2020 season. 

Grant Askins: Askins will join the Nicholls State (NCAA DI) baseball team after two seasons with Dons. In 2019, Askins hit six homeruns (tied for most in OEC) with 30 runs batted in while hitting .254. Though his sophomore season was cut short, he finished with a .357 batting average, four runs batted in and one homerun. 

Nick Sova: Middle infielder Nicka Sova has signed with Hope International University (NAIA) following his second season with Santa Ana. Sova was a key defensive piece for the Dons, often inserted late in games to help hold down opposing offenses. In his freshman season, Sova commited just eight errors in 134 total chances and followed that with zero errors in 2020. 

Copper Hansen: Hansen will transfer to Lamar University (NCAA DI) after proving to one of the best catchers in the OEC in the last two years. As a freshman, Hansen led the conference in runners caught stealing and was named to the All-OEC Second team. His sophomore season was shortened on both ends due to injury but Hansen still produced with a .311 batting average and six RBI's. 

Joel Casillas: Casillas has chosen to sign with Washburn Univerity (NCAA D2),departing Santa Ana after two solid seasons. The right handed reliever was a vertile weapon for the Dons, appearing in 30 games and starting nine in his SAC career. He ended the 2020 season with 0-0 record and a 4.15 earned run average.
