SANTA ANA, Calif. – On Saturday afternoon, the Santa Ana College Football team put its three-game winning streak on the line against the Compton College Tartars in its 2017 homecoming game.
After putting up 59 points against the Tartars, the Dons walked away with their fourth straight win to improve to 5-3 overall and 4-0 in the American Metro League.
It was clear from the start that the Dons were locked in on both sides of the ball. The game started with the Dons forcing Compton to go three and out, securing good field position for their first drive. They cashed in three plays later when running back Josh Hill got loose for a 28-yard touchdown run and the first score of the day.
Following a few stops from both defenses, the Dons got on the board again with a 51-yard touchdown pass from Conner Miller to Devon Jackson Jr. to make the score 14-0 with 5:11 left in the first quarter.
Another stop from the Dons defense led to the third touchdown of the quarter for Santa Ana as Miller connected with Brandon Quinones for a 13-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 21.
The Dons cruised the rest of the way, defeating the Compton Tatars 59-28 to stay on top in the American Metro League.
Santa Ana quarterbacks Conner Miller and Connor Brown both threw for two touchdowns and combined for 266 yards in the air. Running back Deven Boston continued his dominance with 121 rushing yards on just 11 attempts to go along with a TD. And the Santa Ana receiving core of Devon Jackson Jr., Brandon Quinones, Qadir Dean and Kenneth Lamb had a good outing by combining for four touchdowns and 201 receiving yards.
On defense, linebacker Anthony Koclanakis led in tackles with 11 while defensive lineman Corbin Casey followed him with eight of his own. The Don defensive backs also made an impact with five picks on the day.
The Dons will head into their bye week and then return to action when they visit West Los Angeles College on Saturday, November 4th at 1:00 p.m.
