SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana football team suffered a 27-24 loss in a back and forth battle with the Glendale Vaqueros on Saturday afternoon.
Santa Ana seemed in control for most of the game but the Vaqueros started to get their offense going in the second half, taking a 24-17 lead with 5:30 left in the fourth quarter.
The Dons responded quickly with a 70 yard drive that ended on a 19 yard touchdown pass from Luke Wilson to Joshua Rice to tie the score at 24.
On the next drive, Glendale did just enough to move the ball into scoring position while also running the clock down to just seven seconds to give themselves a shot at a game winning field goal.
Glendale kicker Chris Wood managed to squeeze the kick just inside the uprights to give the Vaqueros a 27-24 lead.
Santa Ana falls to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in American Metro League play with the loss.
GAME NOTES
Sophomore running back Josh Hill was one few bright spots for the Santa Ana football team on Saturday, ran for a career high 122 yards and a touchdown in his final game at Santa Ana Stadium.
The Dons had a few big individual performances on the defensive side of the ball, starting with Brett Ferguson, who went for 10 tackles, two forced fumbles and a sack. DJ Niculescu (12) and Kenny Phillips (11) led the team tackles, combining for 23 with 2.5 for loss while Giovanni Kizer recorded 2.5 sacks and five tackles on the day.

Santa Ana closes the 2018 season on Saturday, November 10th on the road game against the LA Valley Monarchs at 6:00 p.m. The Monarchs will be coming off a bye week after defeating Glendale 69-18 in their last game to improve to 6-3, 4-1.
