SANTA ANA, Calif. - The Santa Ana College Football team claimed a share of the American Metro League Championship after defeating West LA 63-21 for its sixth consecutive win on Saturday night.
With a championship on the line, the Dons jumped on the Wildcats right from the start as they scored 42 unanswered points in the first half.
On the first drive of the game, quarterback Ceasar Ayala picked apart the West LA defense with short passes until running back Gary Ferman finished things off with a six yard touchdown carry.
After a quick stop by the SAC defense, Ayala continued the aerial assault with a 70 yard drive capped by a 21 yard touchdown pass to Kristian Constantine.
The stop and score trend continued until the second half when West LA got on the board with an 85 yard kickoff return to make it a 49-7 game with 7:32 remaining in the third.
West LA managed to score a couple more times but ultimately could not keep up with the Dons.
Ayala finished with a line of 24-28 for 251 and three touchdowns. Fellow quarterback David Griffin didn't miss a beat when his name was called and posted big numbers, going 16-22 for 193 yard and three touchdowns while also rushing for 28 yards and a touchdown.
The Don receiving core put in a ton of work as usual but Kristian Constantine stood out with a season high of 10 catches for 162 yards and three scores of the night.
On the defensive end, Santa Ana had three players tied for the team high in tackles with Camaren Sweet, Matthew Galvan and Daylen Fuller at six apiece.
But the reigning SCFA Defensive Player of the Week came up big once again with the only SAC interception of the night to go with three tackles and two pass breakups.
Santa Ana will travel to Glendale on Saturday, November 13th for a chance to earn the title outright in their final regular season game of the year. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
