Santa Ana Hosts Bakersfield College to Open the Season

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana College Men's Basketball team opened the 2017-18 season by hosting the Bakersfield College Renegades on the second day of the first ever SAC/SCC Tipoff Tournament on Thursday night.

Santa Ana knew they had their work cut out for them, as Bakersfield came into the game ranked 13th in the south in the California Community Colleges Men's Basketball Coaches Association pre-season polls.

At the end of the night, the Dons fell to the Renegades by a score of 84-68 to drop their first game of the season.

The bright spot for the Dons was the performance of sophomore guard Cameron High, as he went for 29 points on 11-16 shooting with six threes. Santa Ana also saw some good production from their forwards Xavier Gunter and Deontre Johnlouis Jr.

Gunter, a sophomore forward out of Long Beach Poly, pulled down 13 rebounds to go along with 14 points and six assists for his first double-double of the season.  Johnlouis Jr. provided another inside presence for the Dons after coming off the bench to grab 11 rebounds in his first collegiate game.

The Dons will be back in action again tomorrow when they host Chaffey College at 5:00 p.m.
