Dons Pull Away from Roadrunners for Third Win of the Season

SANTA ANA, Calif. – In Wednesday's matchup between the Santa Ana College Men's Basketball team and the Rio Hondo Roadrunners, the Dons pulled away late to take an 89-81 win.

In the first half, the Dons went up by as many as thirteen but saw that lead dwindle as the Roadrunners came back with a barrage of three-pointers from their bench late in the half. Santa Ana went into the half with just a four-point lead at 43-39.

The momentum would stay in favor of the Roadrunners to start the second half as they chipped away until taking a one-point lead (57-56) with 10:40 left in the game. The Dons responded by inserting four fresh bodies and turning the pressure up on the Roadrunners. In a span of about two minutes, the new group went on a 9-0 run to regain the lead.

Santa Ana kept grinding away from that point on to extend the lead to 77-65 with 4:02 left. After the fouling and free throw portion of the night, the Dons walked away with the 89-81 win for their third of the season.

Keandre Broussard was the focal point for the Dons in this one as he got things started with 12 points in the first half and finished with 19 points, five assists and five rebounds. Cameron High once again led the Dons in scoring with 26 points while adding three boards. And Xavier Gunter recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 17 rebounds to give the Dons an inside presence.

Next up for Santa Ana is another home game on Tuesday, November 28th at 5:00 p.m. against Cuyamaca College.
