Dons Cool Off in Second Half, Drop OEC Contest to No. 3 Ranked Hornets

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Santa Ana men's basketball held its own against the No. 3 ranked Fullerton Hornets in the first half of Friday night's Orange Empire Conference matchup but ultimately ran out of gas in the second half, falling 75-50.

The Dons went up by as much as 11 in the first half after a 13-0 run starting at the 15:36 mark. Fullerton slowly chipped away and took the lead back to go into the halftime break up 30-27.

Santa Ana had to go into the half feeling good about what they did early on but just could not duplicate its play in the second as they struggled to score the rest of the way.

Following a Jalani Horn layup at the 19:27 mark, Santa Ana found itself on the wrong end of a 14-0 run.

From there, the Dons just could not get things going offensively and saw the game slip away.

Horn recorded a team high 14 points with three rebounds, snapping his four game streak of double-doubles. Jeremiah Morehead had a productive night with nine points on 3-5 shooting while pulling down eight rebounds off the bench.

As a team, Santa Ana had a cold shooting night as they finished with a 37.3 (19-51) field goal percentage while also getting outrebounded by 10 (36-26).

SAC falls to 8-13, 3-6 overall while the Hornets snap their two game losing streak to move to 18-2, 7-2.

UP NEXT: Santa Ana will be back in action on Wednesday, January 29th as they take on Riverside on the road at 5:00 p.m.
