Dave Breig was hired as the 29th men's basketball head coach in school history in 2003.

Prior to coming to Santa Ana, he was the head boys basketball coach at Mayfair High School for eight seasons (1995-2003). During his tenure at Mayfair, Breig compiled a phenomenal 162-38 (.810) overall win-lost record and helped transform the prep program into one of the best in the state by capturing five Suburban League crowns, sending six players to National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I programs, and playing in three Southern Section (CIF-SS) championship games, including a CIF-SS Division II-A championship in 1999.

Breig has roots as a player in the community college system, having played the 1986-87 campaign for the Cerritos College Falcons in Norwalk before transferring to Seattle Pacific University where he played for three seasons (1987-88 through 1989-90).

His coaching resume includes stints as a graduate assistant at Seattle Pacific University (1990-91); an assistant coach at Mayfair (1992-93) and Los
Alamitos high school (1993-94); and an assistant coach at Irvine Valley College (1994-95) before earning his first job as a head coach at Mayfair in 1995.

Breig received his associate degree from Cerritos College, his bachelor’s degree in business management from Seattle Pacific University and his master’s degree in kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton.
