Dons Blank Irvine Valley 2-0 in Final Game on the Dons Field

SANTA ANA - With the prospect of playing potential playoff games on the road, the Dons (12-3-5, 9-2-2) defeated Irvine Valley College (6-12-2, 3-10-0) 2-0 in what could be the last game on their home field.

Next season, the Dons will move in to their new home which is currently under construction. The new soccer facility, slated to be completed in May 2013, features a synthetic field, covered player benches, a covered fourth official/media area and equipment storage as well as bleachers to accommodate up to 500 spectators, restrooms and concessions.

But before the move takes place, the Dons took advantage of their longstanding home field advantage one more time. After the two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half, Christian Duarte got the Dons going in the second half.

Duarte set up Ricardo Gonzalez who headed the ball in for the game's first goal in the 54th minute. Just four minutes later, Duarte slipped a ball through the Lasers defense and found Damian Marquez who guided a shot just inside the far post.

Jose Garcia and Chris Martinez combined for the shutout as they each turned away two shots while playing a half apiece. Wilbur Olivera made six saves for the Lasers while allowing both goals.

The Dons end the regular season at Golden West College this Friday at 3:00 p.m.
