First Place Dons Take Down Chargers 3-1

SANTA ANA, Calif. –  After grabbing sole possession of first place in the Orange Empire Conference with a win over Fullerton College last week, the Santa Ana College Men's Soccer team hosted Cypress College in another OEC match on Friday afternoon.

The Dons came away with a 3-1 victory over the Chargers to extend their winning streak to three and remain the top team in the conference.

Santa Ana started with some good fortune early on, pressuring the Chargers into scoring an own goal just 45 seconds into the game.

The Chargers woke up and scored another quick goal, this time on the Dons side of the field, making it 1-1 with 42 minutes left to play in the first half.

Freshman forward Gbanzi Asabi broke the tie with a goal in the seventh minute of the match. The assist came from Daniel Castro, giving him six in total this season.

Later in the first, Matheus Cuhna put away the third goal for the Dons off a cross from fellow sophomore Daniel Castro.

The Dons jump to 7-1-3 overall and 4-0-2 in OEC play. They will hit the road for their next three games, starting with Golden West College on October 10th at 3:00 p.m.
