Dons Win Wild Showdown Against COD

SANTA ANA, Calif. – It was an intense, back and forth match on Friday afternoon as the Santa Ana men's soccer team battled College of the Desert in a non-conference matchup.

After going down 1-0 in the first half on an unlucky bounce, Jesus Nunez evened things up on a good ball from Kevin Ruiz, scoring his fourth goal on the season. COD then countered with another goal five minutes after, only to set up the Dons for an epic comeback in the final minutes of the match.

At the 75-minute mark, Ruiz made it a new match after getting a pass from Gomez to score his first goal of the season. The Dons turned up the pressure soon after, giving themselves the opportunity to sneak out with a win.

With the game tied at 2-2, sophomore midfielder Miguel Gomez became the hero when he fired a ball into the right corner of the net to score the winning goal for the Dons. The goal was his second of the season and third of his SAC career.

Santa Ana improves to 2-0 on the year, while College of the Desert drops to 1-1. The Dons will start their three-game road stint against San Bernardino Valley on Tuesday, September 4th at 4:00 p.m.
