Santa Ana Holds on to Top Irvine Valley, 2-1

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The No. 10 ranked Santa Ana men's soccer team held on to defeat the Irvine Valley Lasers 1-0 for their 10th win of the season.

This marks the third consecutive season that the Dons have won at least 10 games.

Kevin Ruiz gave the Dons the go ahead goal in the 58th minute when he booted a shot off a defender and into the goal. It was the third goal of the year for the freshman forward out of Katella High.

Although the Dons came out with a win, the Lasers didn't go down easy, putting up 12 shots with eight coming in the second half.

Santa Ana goalkeeper Frank Aguilar had another solid game, recording four saves for the shutout. Aguilar is now fourth in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC)in saves with 59 on the season.

With the win, the Dons are now 10-1-4 overall and 5-1-4 in the OEC while Irvine Valley fall to 4-9-3, 2-6-3.

The Orange Coast Pirates will come to Santa Ana to face the Dons on Friday, October 26th at 3:00 p.m. The Pirates sit at 5th place in the OEC standings with a 7-7-3, 5-5-1 record.
