Santa Ana Soccer Ranked in Top 20 of First CCCSIA Poll

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Both Santa Ana College soccer teams have earned top 20 spots in the first California Community College Sports Information Association polls of the year.

The women came in at number 14 behind hot starts from their sophomore forwards Leyna Wood and Linda Gutierrez. Both have put away eight goals to help the Dons begin the 2019 season with a 4-0 record. The forwards are tied for the third most goals in the state. The women will continue their season at home on Tuesday against Mt. San Jacinto at 3:00 p.m.

On the men's side, the Dons were voted in at number 16 after a 4-1 start. Santa Ana's only loss was on the road against third ranked Oxnard. Since then, they have won three consecutive matches by at least two goals. Freshman forward Gilberto Garcia has been one of the standouts with four goals on the year while goalkeeper Frank Aguilar has anchored the defense with two shutouts and 19 saves. SAC will take a break until Wednesday, September 25th when they host LA Mission College at 4:00 p.m.
