Dons Open Season with 15-10 Win over Southwestern College

GLENDORA - The Dons opened their 2012 campaign at the Citrus Tournament and picked up a 15-10 win over Southwestern College.

After grabbing a 4-2 lead in the first quarter on a pair of goals by Nick Beavers, the Dons built their lead to 9-3 at the half. Micah Mathis scored four of his game-high five goals in the second quarter, propelling the Dons to the large lead.

Mathis opened the second half with his fifth goal before Duncan Wilson and Beavers added a goal each has the Dons held a 12-5 lead after three. Southwestern outscored the Dons 5-3 in the final frame but it was too little too late as SAC grabbed the 15-10 win.

Following Mathis' five-goal performance was Beavers and Wilson who scored four goals apiece with Fernando Lopez and Austin Robbins each adding a goal to round out the Dons scoring. Wilson led the Dons with four assists while Wes Kobel turned away nine shots to help the Dons to victory.
