Dons Bring Their Bats but Lose Lead Late Against Tigers

SANTA ANA, Calif. – There was a battle on the campus of Santa Ana College on Wednesday afternoon, as the Santa Ana Don's Softball team took on Riverside College in another Orange Empire Conference game.

The Dons took an early 2-1 lead in the second inning and extended that in fifth with a four-run inning. With the bases loaded, first baseman Liana Castro doubled down the left field line to clear the bases. 

With two down, catcher Troi Van Valkenburg drove in the fourth run of the inning with another double, putting the Dons up by a score of 6-1.

The Tigers made it a game in the sixth inning by scoring six runs of their own, but Santa Ana answered back in the bottom of the inning behind another two-out hit from Van Valkenburg, making it an 8-7 lead for the Dons.

Another run from the Tigers forced extra innings and soon after Dons lost the lead in the top of the eighth inning.

Santa Ana now has an overall record of 15-13, 5-7 in conference and play at home again on Monday, April 3rd against Ventura College.
