Santa Ana Drops Home Opener to Cerritos, 7-3

SANTA ANA, Calif. – On Friday, the Santa Ana Softball team hosted the Cerritos College Falcons (3-1) in its 2018 home opener and dropped the game by a score of 7-3.

Santa Ana jumped on top early, with a two-run second inning. After Desirae McCormick doubled to right center to bring in Tiana Patrick for the first run of the game, the Dons completed a double steal with Gianna Gutierrez advancing to second base and McCormick taking home for the second run of the inning.

Shortly after, the Falcons got their bats going and took a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning after a grand slam from Briana Sanchez. Cerritos tacked on another two in the fifth and one in the seventh to score seven runs on the Dons pitching staff.

The Dons were able to score one more in the sixth inning when Makayla Peralta hit a shot off the third baseman's glove for an RBI single.

Kali Kitsinis got her second start of the season for the Dons and took the loss, going four innings with five runs and two strikeouts. Priscilla De La Torre came in to relieve her in the fifth to finish the game. De La Torre gave up just one run in three innings to go along with one strikeout.

Santa Ana falls to 0-2 with the loss but has a quick turnaround, as they start the Moorpark Tournament against Los Angeles Mission College on Saturday, Feb. 3rd at 12:00 p.m.
