Dons Fall to Cypress in Battle for First Place

CYPRESS, Calif. – On Friday afternoon, Santa Ana's Softball team (13-8, 7-2) traveled to Cypress College for a matchup up with the No. 2 Chargers (18-1, 8-1) that would determine the first place team in the Orange Empire Conference standings.

The Dons came out firing with a two run first inning but couldn't sustain the lead, as the Chargers put up 13 runs in innings three through five to defeat Santa Ana 13-4.

Freshman infielder Jeana Gonzales did all she could to keep the Dons in the game, contributing two clutch hits to bring in all four of her teams runs. Gonzales now has 20 RBI's this season, which is good for seventh in OEC.

Karlee Rivera, Tiana Patrick and Desirae McCormick combined for five hits and four runs in the loss.

With their second conference loss, Santa Ana sits in second place with big games against Fullerton and Santiago Canyon coming up next week. On Wednesday, March 21st the Dons will go on the road to play Fullerton at 3:00 p.m. before hosting Santiago Canyon on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
