Dons Take Down Rio Hondo for 20th Win of the Season

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana Softball team picked up its 20th win of the season by defeating the Rio Hondo Roadrunners 7-3 in a non-conference matchup on Monday afternoon. This marks the seventh straight season the Dons have hit this accomplishment under Coach Kim Nutter.

Although the Dons were favored to win this one, the Roadrunners made them work for it. Santa Ana went up three in the second after Tiana Patrick and Jeana Gonzales both singled to drive in runs.

Rio Hondo made their push in the third inning with three runs on three hits and an error to tie the game three.

Soon after, the Dons responded two more runs in the bottom half of the inning and another two in the fourth to make in a 7-3 game.

Kali Kitsinis was inserted in the third inning and picked up the win, going 4.1 scoreless innings with one strikeout and two hits.

The Dons return to Orange Empire Conference action with a matchup against No. 3 Cypress at home on Wednesday, April 11th at 3:00 p.m. With a win, the Dons would take over the top spot in the conference standings.
