Dons Fall in Pitchers Duel with Southwestern

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Santa Ana starting pitcher Nicole Yniguez was lights out in Friday's non-conference game against Southwestern but took the loss as her counterpart shutout the Dons with a no-hitter.

The only run of the game came in the third inning, as Southwestern scored on an RBI single from Erika Anders.

Santa Ana threatened to even things up in the next inning when Genesis Pulido pinch ran and advanced to third after a wild pitch and a ground ball out. Yniguez had the chance to help herself out with the tying run on third but grounded out to shortstop to end the inning.

The game ended with the Dons down 1-0, dropping them to a record of 5-2 while the Southwestern Jaguars improved to 3-2 overall.
