Gonzales Leads Dons to Fourth Consecutive Win, Back to Back Against SCC

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana softball team extended its winning streak to four games after defeating the Santiago Canyon Hawks 2-1 on Thursday afternoon.

It was the second of back to back games against the Hawks, as the Dons rolled to a 12-2 victory in the first on Wednesday.

Nicole Yniguez collected her ninth win of the year with a seven inning, four strikeout performance. Yniguez, a transfer from Santiago Canyon, allowed just three runs in 14 total innings against her former team.

The Dons did their damage in the fifth inning when Jeana Gonzales hit a liner that just escaped the glove of the SCC left fielder to bring in Karlee Rivera and Drea DeFord. Gonzales had a big day for the Dons, going 3-3 with two runs batted in to lead Santa Ana to the win.

Santa Ana picked up two games in the Orange Empire Conference standing with the two wins, pushing them to third place with a record of 14-5, 5-2 while the Hawks dropped to fifth at 11-6, 3-4.
