Dons Win by Run Rule in Non-Conference Game Against Grossmont

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Santa Ana softball got back on track with a non-conference win over Grossmont (3-12, 2-4) on Monday afternoon.

The Dons (15-6, 5-3) took advantage of their opponents four errors, winning by run rule in the fifth inning by a score of 10-2.

Aspen Kyles and Nicole Yniguez combined to hold the Griffins to two runs on five hits with four strikeouts. After Kyles got the start and went 2.2 innings with both runs and two strikeouts, Yniguez relieved her to finish the game, earning her 10th win of the season.

Although the Griffins made some crucial errors throughout the game, the Dons still hit the ball well, collecting 10 hits and six RBI's.

Jeana Gonzales and Makayla Peralta were two of the game's standouts as they both finished 2-3 with a couple RBI's. Peralta earned her RBI's on a single, a double and a bases clearing triple, leaving her just a home run shy of the cycle. Gonzales' day was highlighted by her game winning single in the bottom of the fifth to bring home the Don's 10th run.

No. 13 Santa Ana will return to Orange Empire Conference play on Wednesday with a top 15 matchup against No. 9 Fullerton. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. at Santa Ana College.
