No. 5 SAC Softball Bounces Back with 5-2 Win Over East LA

SANTA ANA, Calif. - On Monday, the No. 5 ranked Santa Ana College Softball team returned home to host the East LA Huskies (7-12) in a non-conference contest.

East LA came ready to play as they posted two runs on a triple and a SAC error to take an early lead. But the Dons (17-3) weathered the storm and tied the game in the bottom half of the inning.

Alexis Rangel hit an RBI single to second for the Dons first run and Sarah Casey followed that with a double to left center to even the score at 2-2.

In the third, Santa Ana rallied to take the lead for good, scoring three more runs to take advantage of a handful of Husky errors.

Amanda Mendoza struck out one while giving up one earned run in her first start of the season. The freshman from Segerstrom High went one and a third innings before Emily Rosas relieved her.

Rosas earned the win while striking out nine in five and two third innings.

The Huskies are one of six opponents from the South Coast Conference (SCC) the Dons have on the schedule. With the win, Santa Ana is now 2-2 against SCC opponents.

SAC will now return to Orange Empire Conference with a road game against Saddleback (6-11, 2-5) on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
