Santa Ana College Brings Back Men's Swimming for Spring 2013

SANTA ANA - After temporarily suspending the men's swimming team following the 2009 season, the Santa Ana College athletic department will once again field a men's swim team led by head coach Al Reyes.

"I am excited and couldn't be more thrilled that the department brought it back," said Reyes. "The men are thrilled. They're excited to compete year-round. It's also going to help our recruiting [for both swimming and water polo] because I can recruit guys who want to compete year-round, rather than six months."

The Dons will return to action on February 8 at Golden West College when they will face off against the host Rustlers as well as Cypress College and Riverside City College.

Dean of Kinesiology Avie Bridges echoed Reyes' sentiment on the importance of offering the aquatics' student-athletes an opportunity to compete year-round.

"The reinstatement of men's swimming completes our aquatics program," said Bridges. "It also demonstrates a commitment to our coaches and student-athletes toward building a strong aquatics program at Santa Ana College."
