Men's Swimming Kicks Off 2013 Season with a Win over Cypress College

HUNTINGTON BEACH - The Dons opened the 2013 season with a win over Cypress College while dropping a pair of meets to host Golden West College and Riverside City College in an Orange Empire Conference meet.

The final score against Cypress was 95-79 in favor of the Dons while Golden West earned a 157-31 victory over the Dons and Riverside City a 163-33 win that made the Dons 1-2 on the season.

Leading the way was Nick Beavers who took third place overall in the 200-yard freestyle and fifth place in the 100-yard freestyle. Following him was Micah Mathis who grabbed fourth place in the 200-yard breast stroke and fifth place in the 50-yard freestyle.

Other notable performances were Marshall Pereda taking fifth place in the 1,000-yard freestyle and Wes Kobel taking seventh place in both the 200-yard individual medley as well as the 500-yard freestyle.

The Dons return to action on March 1 when they travel to Saddleback College. They will take on the host Gauchos as well as Fullerton College and Golden West.
