Following the Orange Empire Conference Championships held at Saddleback College April 20 and 27, three members of the Dons track & field team qualified for the Southern California Regional Finals in five different events.
Leading the charge was Reyna Fonseca who placed second in both the 800 meter run and the 1,500 meter run. Her time of 2:18.90 in the 800 is the second fastest in school history as she now holds three of the top-five times in SAC history in that event.
Joining Fonseca will be Susana Marquez and Alicia Sotelo. Also competing in two events is Sotelo who took third place in the steeplechase and fourth place in the 5,000 meter run. Marquez will be competing in the 10,000 meter run following her sixth place performance in the OEC Championships.
The Southern California Regionals will be held on May 5 and May 12 at San Diego Mesa College. Athletes who finish in the top six of their respective events will qualify for the State Championships held May 18-19 at Cerritos College.
