Dons Open Season with Impressive Performances

The Santa Ana College (SAC) women's track & field team opened the 2012 season with a pair of impressive performances from Reyna Fonseca and Susana Marquez.

The Dons opened the season at Fullerton College on February 10, taking on the host Hornets as well as Golden West College and Riverside City College. In the Orange Empire Conference meet the Dons dominated the distance events.

Fonseca opened with a first place finish in the 800 meter run turning in a time of 2:24.89 before claiming the top spot in the 1,500 meter run (5:06.23). She was followed by Marquez in the 1,500M who finished in fifth with a time of 5:15.19.

Marquez came back in the 3,000 meter run and picked up a victory of her own after finishing in a time of 11:24.80. Alicia Sotelo followed with a time of 11:51.59, placing her sixth in the event.

The Dons then traveled to the Cerritos Invitational held February 17 and 18 where they continued to excel in the distance events.

Fonseca turned in a 2:23.06 performance in the 800 meter run that was good for second place before returning to the winner's circle in the 1,500 meter run (4:55.84).

Marquez upped her distance from the previous week, competing in the 5,000 meter run where she finished in 10th place with a time of 19:29.13. The Dons also received a pair of strong performances in the shorter distances.

Arlene Lezama finished 10th in the 100 meter sprint (13:46) before finishing 12th in the 200 meter sprint (28:62). Maria Baeza then turned in a 1:04.01 performance in the 400 meter run, placing her eighth overall.
