Dons Impress at OEC Double Dual

SANTA ANA, Calif. – On Friday, Mar. 24th the Santa Ana College Track and Field teams traveled to Golden West Collge to compete in the Orange Empire Double Dual.

The Men

Sophomore standout Paulino Sanchez took first place in both the 800 and 1,500-meter events. In the 800m he hit a personal record of 2:05.42 and then blazed to a time of 4:13.59 in the 1,500m event.

Brian Ambrocio followed closely in the 1,500m with a personal-record of 4:15.62 and next was freshman Eric Jimenez, setting his own personal record at 4:16.22.

Freshman Jeremiah Gill was the lone Don who competed in the 5,000-meter event but represented well with a first-place finish. He finished with an impressive time of 16:35.20, beating the competition by more than 15 seconds.

In the 100-meter event, Don freshman's Jason Oliver and Jesus Lopez also recorded personal records and came in fifth and sixth out of 12 runners. Oliver clocked in at 11.46, while Lopez finished at 11.50.

The Women

In sprints, Don freshman Cydnee Wallace dominated the field with first place finishes and personal records in the 100 and 200-meter events. A time of 12.79 was enough to win the 100m and she posted a time 26.53 to win the 200m event.

The Dons were also dominant in the 1,500-meter event, taking the top three spots. Sophomore Toni Lopez came away with the first-place finish, while Lizbeth Luciano-Luis and Lizeth Luciano-Luis took second and third.

The Santa Ana College Track and Field team will head up to San Francisco State University for its next meet on Friday, Mar. 31st.
