Owens, Comford and Jimenez Standout in OEC Track & Field Prelims

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The 2018 Orange Empire Conference Prelims was an exciting event for the Santa Ana Track & Field team, as multiple Dons recorded personal records during the meet.

Once again, freshman sprinter Alexandria Owens broke her own personal records in the 100m and 200m events. Owens ran a 12.53 in the 100m for a first place finish and the third best time in Santa Ana history. She followed that with a time of 26.08 in the 200m, claiming third place in the event.

Fellow freshman Malik Comford had a great day on the men's side, setting a new personal record at 10.84 in the 100m dash, qualifying him for the OEC Championships. He also came in ninth in the 200m event with a time of 22.29.

While others participated in the prelims, sophomore long distance runner Eric Jimenez found himself in a battle for the 10,000m championship. He was neck and neck with Riverside's Austin Dai the whole way through but came up short by .02 seconds, taking second place in the race.

These three standouts will continue to compete for the Dons as they head into the OEC Championships on April 27th at Riverside City College.
