Moreno Takes 6th in 400M Hurdles at State Championships

SAN MATEO, Calif. – Octavio Moreno finished his Santa Ana career by taking sixth place in the 400 meter hurdle event in the CCCAA State Championships at College of San Mateo on Saturday afternoon.

Moreno was one of nine individuals that qualified to compete in the event after solid performances in the CCCAA SoCal Prelims and Finals as well as hitting the third fastest time in the state at the Orange Empire Conference Championships with a time of 53:56.

Santa Ana Head Coach Miriam Mitzel joined him for the trip up north and was satisfied with the results.

"I told Octavio before the race that it was his day to shine," said Mitzel. "All the hard work he put in paid off. He represented our school and our community and left everything on the track. I'm very proud of him and everything he's accomplished for our program."

The sophomore from Anaheim fought through the tough weather conditions and raced to a time of 54.87.

Moreno leaves Santa Ana as one of the best hurdlers in program history and holds the second fastest record in the 400 meter hurdles.

The Dons will look to fill in the gaps for the 2020 season as he and a handful of sophomores are set to transfer in the Fall.
