Ivicevic's 30 Points Leads Dons in Win over Rio Hondo

SANTA ANA - The Dons picked up their first home win of the season with an 89-69 victory over visiting Rio Hondo College. The win came behind a 30-point performance by Taylor Ivicevic as the Dons moved to 4-3.

After falling behind by seven points at the end of the first quarter, the Dons outscored Rio Hondo (1-6) 76-49 for the remainder of the game. It was in the fourth quarter that SAC put the Roadrunners away by outscoring them 31-18.

In the final eight minutes, the Dons shot 76.9% from the field while holding Rio Hondo to just 31.3% shooting. The Dons best quarter defensively came in the third quarter when they held the Roadrunners to just 29.4% on 5-of-17 shooting.

The top performance belonged to Ivicevic with her 30 points as she hit eight of her 11 shots while going a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line. Blaysen Varnadoe added 19 points while Amanda Sanchez was a spark off the bench with 15 points. Rachel Cain rounded out the Dons scorers in double digits with 11 points.

Rio Hondo had three of its starters in double digits, led by Danna Robles with 20 points while Ashley Rendon added 15 points and Alexis Hernandez scored 14 points.
