Dons Fall to Irvine Valley 72-40 to End Regular Season

SANTA ANA – The Dons saw their 2015-16 regular season come to a close with a 72-40 loss to Irvine Valley College. With the loss, the Dons overall record drops to 17-11 while their Orange Empire Conference record evens out at 6-6, placing them in a tie for fourth place with Orange Coast College. Irvine Valley improved to 21-7 overall with the win and 9-3 in the OEC to finish second overall.

The Lasers jumped out quick with a 7-1 run to take control of the game early before pulling away to a 24-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. By halftime, Irvine Valley extended its lead to 17 points at 41-24 before outscoring the Dons 14-10 in the third quarter. Finally, the Lasers used a 17-6 fourth quarter to take their largest lead of the game at 70-37 with 2:07 remaining before winning 72-40.

Taylor Ivicevic and Blaysen Varnadoe led the Dons with 11 points apiece while Irvine Valley got a game-high 20 points from Kydell Pearson off the bench. Kasey Smit added 16 points for the Lasers while Tara Casey added 11 points.
