Dons Basketball Advance in Home Tournament

SANTA ANA- In their second game of their home tournament, the women's basketball team defeated San Bernardino Valley College 97-55 to move on to play in the Consolation Championship Game in the final day of the tournament.

The Dons will face San Diego Mesa College after their defeat over Cosumnes River 56-49. Last season, the Dons won the Championship game over San Bernardino Valley 93-87.

Today's game opened with a shot by the Wolverines, but then sophomore Taylor Ivicevic answered back with the first layup of the game. Sophomores Lauren Fruto, Blaysen Varnadoe, and Taylor Ivicevic each scored a three-point jump shot in the first half to help keep the commanding lead for the Dons 50-26. Varnadoe led the Dons in the first half with 13 points and Ivicevic right behind her with 11 points.

During the second half, the Dons shot 50% while San Bernardino Valley College shot 30.4%. Sophomore Amy Talavou, freshman Lilly Martinez, and sophomore Taylor Ivicevic each helped add to the Dons score by scoring six points each. Freshman Angela Rodriguez from Senora High School led the Dons in the second half with 8 points to seal the win 97-55.

TOURNAMENT RECAP

The second day of the tournament opened with San Diego Mesa defeating Cosumnes River 56-49 to advance to Saturday's Consolation Championship Game. San Diego Mesa will face off the Dons after Santa Ana College defeated San Bernardino Valley College 97-55. That game will be played at noon.

The Third Place game will follow at 2pm and will feature West Hills against Merced College before Moorpark takes on Bakersfield at 4pm in the Championship Game.
