Santa Ana Opens Conference with 70-67 Win Against Fullerton

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana Women's Basketball team opened Orange Empire Conference play with a 70-67 win against Fullerton College inside Bill Cook Gym on Wednesday night.

The Dons (6-7) broke a three-game skid that accumulated over the holiday break while Fullerton (4-9) extended their losing streak to three games.

Four of Santa Ana's starters scored in double digits as the Dons battled their way to the win. SAC shot 49 percent from the field with 15 assists to outpace the Hornets.

Alexis Casillas recorded another double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds while Cheryl Caldera pounded the Hornets inside with 12 points and 10 boards to help lead the Dons the victory.

Alexis Smith and Cailey Vitug kept up their solid play with 13 points each, combining for 8-13 shooting.

The Dons will try to gain some momentum as they hit the road on Friday to play Riverside City College at 7:00 p.m.
