Morris Goes for Career High 18 in Loss to IVC

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Sally Morris scored a career high 18 points in Santa Ana's 85-55 loss against No. 3 Irvine Valley on Wednesday night.

Morris went 5-12 from the field, including four threes in a team high 34 minutes. The freshman from Ocean View High also added two rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal.

Female Student-Athlete of the Month of January, Alexis Smith, contributed with 13 points, three rebounds and a couple of blocks. Smith shot 5-10 from the field and 3-8 from downtown for the Dons.

Santa Ana had a decent night shooting from deep but struggled inside the arc, shooting 31.7 percent from the field and just 56.3 percent from the free throw line. The Lasers were quite the opposite, shooting in the 40's both overall and from three as well as 86.7 percent from the free throw line.

The Dons drop to 10-13 overall and 5-6 in the Orange Empire Conference while IVC moves to 22-3, 11-0.

Next, the Dons will go down the road to play Orange Coast on Friday, Feb. 9th at 5:00 p.m. They will return home for the last time on Tuesday, Feb. 13th against Copper Mountain at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday will also be a special night, as the Dons will raise awareness about the fight against cancer and inspire hope with Coaches versus Cancer Night as well as honor their two sophomores, Alexis Smith and Alexis Casillas.
