Santa Ana Basketball Heads to Orange Empire Conference Play

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana men's and women's basketball teams will head into Orange Empire Conference play following a tough pre-season schedule for both programs.

After dropping their last game 57-46 to Citrus College in the Grossmont Holiday Tournament, the Don women sit at a record of 4-9. Santa Ana has shown they are a deep team and not afraid of using all their weapons, as 11 players are averaging at least 10 minutes per game.

Freshmen guards Lexi Ross (10.2 ppg) and Nyla Biven (9.7 ppg / 6.4 rpg) have established their roles as they lead the team in scoring while sophomores Sally Morris (7.3ppg) and Cailey Vitug (5.2 ppg / 3.5 apg) have been consistently productive through the first half of the season.

They'll kick things off on the road against Copper Mountain on Wednesday, January 9th at 5:00 p.m., followed by hosting Orange Coast on Friday, January 11th at 7:00 p.m.

On the men's side, Santa Ana comes into conference play at 6-10 after a 67-70 road loss to Cuyamaca College in their last contest.

The Dons are led by freshman guard Roman Lopez (20.1 ppg) who climbed into the top 10 in the state in scoring after a monster 42 point game against San Diego Miramar College and sophomore standout Chris Bailey (16.3 ppg / 7.5 rpg).

The men will start conference play at home on Friday with the first game of the doubleheader against Orange Coast College at 5:00 p.m.
